José Carreño Calón, PhD: Public Communication Advisor
José Carreño is President and co-founder of Car&Co. As a consultant, Jose has worked in the creation and implementation of communications strategies for some of the most important corporations in Mexico primarily in the construction and banking sectors.
Before he became a consultant, Jose worked in the public sector and cabinet level positions such as Mexican Ambassador to the Netherlands (1995-1996); Press Secretary and spokesman for the President of Mexico (1992 – 1994) where he participated in some of Mexico’s far reaching reforms in modern Mexico, such as NAFTA and market liberalization. Jose was a Congressman from 1982 to 1985.
Jose also has a vast experience as a journalist. He participated in the foundation of several newspapers such as Uno mas Uno, La Jornada and the remake of El Nacional. He held managerial positions in these newspapers and others such as El Universal. He was a political analyst and commentator of Radio Educacion, Onda Politica and Radio Formula. He is a member of the board and collaborator of Nexos magazine and writes a daily column in the Cronica newspaper. His work has earned him the National Journalism Award. He has published extensively in both Mexican and American journals.
Jose Carreño holds a PhD in Communications from the Universidad de Navarra, a Masters degree from Leiden University and a Law degree from the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico. He is currently the head of a Think Tank of Law and Communications at the Universidad Iberoamericana, where he also teaches.
